Lesson 7 of 9

Does it train on my chats?

5 min read

You type something personal and wonder: is this feeding the machine? Often the default is yes — but that's a setting, not a law of nature.

By default, often kept

Depending on the product and its settings, your chats can be stored, sampled for review, and used to train future models. That's how many free tools work. It isn't sinister, but it does mean what you type can outlive the conversation and be seen by someone else.

Sending is keeping: by default your words may train the model.

The switches are yours

Most assistants let you turn training off, control memory, and use a temporary chat that keeps nothing. Set them to match how sensitive the topic is. The safest habit needs no settings at all: don't paste secrets, passwords, or other people's private data in the first place.

Choose what's kept on purpose — the defaults were set for the product, not you.

Before a sensitive chat, open the assistant's data controls once, turn training off, and use a temporary chat — a minute that lasts.
