Lesson 6 of 7

When the vibe breaks

6 min read

Vibecoding feels like magic — until it doesn't. So where's the line between "just ask the AI" and "you need a real developer"?

Great for the first mile

Vibecoding is brilliant for getting started: prototypes, personal tools, small sites, quick internal helpers. But it has a line. As the stakes rise — real money, private data, big crowds, rules you must follow — the risk of a bug you can't even see rises with them, and that's where you slow down.

Vibecoding owns the first mile — ideas, prototypes, personal tools. The higher the stakes, the more it needs a careful human hand.

Know when to hand off

The AI writes code confidently even when it's subtly wrong, and a security or payments bug can be invisible until it costs you. When real money, personal data, or many users are on the line, that's the moment to get a developer to review it — or to take over. Handing off isn't failure; it's knowing the tool's edge.

Asking for help at the edge is a skill, not a defeat — a developer catches the expensive bugs vibecoding hides.

Be especially careful with anything touching payments, passwords, or personal data. "It runs" is not the same as "it's safe" — those need a real review before real people rely on them.

The shape of it

You vibecoded a shop and now want to take real card payments from customers. What's the right move?
