Lesson 8 of 8
Putting it together
4 min read
You've met the whole toolkit — the models, Gems, research, live voice, memory, media, and your own docs. So which tool do you reach for, and when?
One assistant, many tools
The trick with Gemini isn't any single feature — it's knowing which one fits the moment. A quick question wants Flash; a hard one wants Pro. A job you repeat wants a Gem. A big question wants Deep Research; your own documents want NotebookLM. Match the tool to the task and the app gets out of your way.
What you can do now
- —Pick the right model: Flash for speed, Pro for hard problems.
- —Bottle a repeated job into a Gem with standing instructions.
- —Send Deep Research to read many sources into a cited report, and edit it in Canvas.
- —Talk to Gemini Live and show it your camera.
- —Let personalization remember your preferences — and control what it keeps.
- —Create with Nano Banana (images) and Veo (video), and ground answers in your docs with NotebookLM.
There's no single "best" feature — just the right one for the task in front of you.
New features land often. When something new appears in Gemini, ask the same question you've learned here: what job does this do, and when would I reach for it?
You need a trustworthy summary of your own 30-page contract, with each point traceable to the text. Best tool?
