Lesson 7 of 8
Gemini in Workspace + NotebookLM
7 min read
What if the AI didn't live in a separate tab, but right inside the email you're writing — and could answer questions grounded only in your documents, not the whole internet?
It lives where you already work
Gemini isn't only a standalone app — it sits inside Google Workspace. In Gmail it can draft a reply; in Docs it can rewrite a paragraph; in Sheets it can build a formula. Same assistant, right in the side panel of the tool you're already using, with your document in view.
Inside Workspace, Gemini acts on the document in front of you — no copy-pasting between a chat and your work.
NotebookLM: grounded in your documents
[NotebookLM](glossary://notebooklm) flips the usual setup: instead of answering from everything it learned in training, it answers only from documents you upload — your reports, notes, PDFs. Ask a question and it replies with citations pointing to the exact source, so you can trust and verify every claim.
Grounding an answer in your own sources cuts guessing: NotebookLM cites where each fact came from, so you can check it.
NotebookLM only knows the sources you give it — which is the point. If a fact isn't in your documents, it won't invent one; add the source that has it.
The shape of it
- —Gemini works inside Gmail, Docs, and Sheets, not just its own app.
- —NotebookLM answers only from documents you provide.
- —It cites the exact source, so you can verify each claim.
You want answers about your 40-page project brief that you can actually trust and trace. What fits?
